Recently, the open market as a type of internet shopping mall is growing much more rapidly than the other existing internet shopping malls. Along with the rapid growth of open market, the internet fraud has been increased continuously. Since customers buy products on the open market without face-to-face communication with sellers, customers may receive items that do not match the seller’s description. Therefore, interactivity plays an important role in connecting the open market and customers because the strength of customer trust and loyalty depends on the method of interactivity. Most studies of interactivity focus on advertisements or shopping malls while there is little research on the open market. In addition, there are few studies examining the effects of interactivity components. Moreover, it is essential to investigate the effects of participation and playfulness as the components of people-oriented interactivity because these components have positive effects on promoting customers' trust on web sites, advertisements, and shopping malls. This paper investigates the key antecedents and consequences of trust in a context of interactivity by integrating the previous research in a comprehensive model. This study also gives an empirical analysis on theoretical relationships. These theoretical relationships are as follows: 1) the impact of interactivity components, i.e., user control, responsiveness, personalization, participation and playfulness, on trust in open markets; 2) the relationship between trust and loyalty in open markets. In the preparation of the survey, we interviewed open market experts and users to make the survey questionnaires more credible and reliable. To analyze the validity of the research model and the hypotheses, the survey was conducted from February 27th to March 17th of 2012. Data are collected from 305 open market users located in Yeoungnam district. Of the 305 users, 34 did not answer the questionnaire properly. As a result, 271 questionnaires were used for this study. The conclusion was given as follows. First, among the components of interactivity such as responsiveness, personalization, participation and playfulness except user control have significant positive effects on trust on the open market. Second, trust also shows a significant effect on customer loyalty in the open market. A limitation of this study is that the survey focuses on the qualitative characteristics of interactivity between the open market and consumers. Therefore, it is necessary to add research on the quantitative characteristics such as intervals and frequency. For future research, it is necessary to have more samples with diverse demographics to enhance generalization. Also this study was conducted targeting the whole open market. Thus, future studies should include a comparative analysis by product classification or category classification in open market.
