LTE Femtocell networks comprising a cellular network and femtocells can provide an efficient solution not only to extend macrocell coverage but also to deal with the growth of traffic within macrocells. However, the allocation of radio frequency resources in the handover procedure between macrocell and femtocell are still under intensive investigation. In this thesis, the handover procedure between macrocell and femtocells are implemented and its results are described based on the 3GPP recommendations. The inbound and outbound femtocell handover procedures are simulated in order to demonstrate the validity of the transaction of control signaling required in the LTE femtocell handover. For the efficient radio frequency resource utilization, a conceptual scheme of the resource management is described, which is to maximize the LTE femtocell network capacity. It is included the handover decision criteria based on the received signal strength, the radio resource reuse, and the network throughput capacity. Possibility of the network capacity enhancement of LTE femtocell networks is described.
