Music education based on Korea's 7th curriculum places its focus on creativity so that original and creative thinking could be promoted through students' creative experience and various music activities. Therefore, students would be able to participate in music classes with more zeal and interest if we apply in classrooms Carl Orff's instructional approach, which emphasizes improvisational, expressive ability and creative music activity, and centers itself around simple rhythmic instruments. Therefore, this study has its purpose in achieving effective instruction at the scene of music education through rhythmic concept instructional plan for middle school based on the Orff Approach. If the rhythmic concept instructional plan presented by this study is applied to middle school music education, a variety of musical expression abilities will see improvement and students will be able to develop creative musical ability by stimulating growth of musical imagination. The result of applying the lesson plan prepared by this study is as follows; First, students began to develop positive attitudes regarding music class, displaying eagerness to show up to next class and interest in the upcoming class material. Also, they were very active during musical activities. Second, learning through singing, games, other physical activities (raising/lowering the arms, clapping hands, clapping knees) and various rhythmic games is very effective. Third, students gained confidence in playing instruments as well, self-participating in playing Ostinato or Bordun .Fourth, instruction of musical rhythm begins with experiencing music by listening, then reacting to the experience. It is desirable to accept music in its beauty, singing what one feels and discovering the rhythm that one wishes to play the rhythm that is purely embedded in one's body; this allows for easier recognition of even complicated rhythms. This study focused on presenting an effective instructional plan for rhythmic learning, which is based on the Orff Approach. It allows for students themselves to experience 'musical rhythm,' and gain expressional and creative abilities. There is also a dire need for development of teaching aids that are fitted to reality of Korea's education.
