esus proclaimed the year of Lord’s favor (Lk 4:19) during sermon in the church of Nazareth. Luke 4:18-19 quoted Isaiah 61:1-2 and Isaiah 58:6: "The LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God"The researcher claims the sermon by Jesus of Nazareth in Luke 4:19 is perfect declaration of ‘Jubilee’ in Leviticus 25. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to explore the meaning of appearance of Jesus for Jubilee.Hee-Nyun translates from Jubilee in English, and Jubilee transliterates from Hebrew ‘□□□□□’ Originally, Jubilee(?????) means ‘a ram’ or ‘horn of a ram’. However, the meaning was changed as ‘Jubilee’ or ‘year of Jubilee’ because when informing 50th year, entrance of Canaanas its starting point, a bugle made of the horn of the ram will be blown.According to Leviticus 25:8-17, Jubilee indicates 50th year: the following year after seven sabbatical years from Israel’s entrance of Canaanas its starting point. New Year’s Day of the year, July 10th, is the ‘day of expiation’. Therefore, it is defined as ‘the holy day that especially should be consecrated’: blowing the bugle as shout of happy, bugle made of the horn of the ram, all over the world. When it comes to be proclaimed Jubilee, the things should be implemented as follows:1. Proclamation of freedom: all people be slaved is proclaimed to be free go back home.2. Prohibition of cultivation: all cultivated land is prohibited cultivation to rest both land and slaves or servants.3. Retrieve of land and house: when Jubilee, people can get back their land or house, even though they sell them because they are poor.4. Prohibition of getting interest: when the poor cognate ask to borrow money or grain, let them have it without interest.5. Redemption: when he/she or one of relatives wants to redeem the thing that they sold already, it should be done. Redemption law was not only for Jubilee, but general custom in Israel.Historically, it is doubtable that Jubilee law was well done in the Israel community. Because there were lots of people oppressed politically, economically, and religiously in the society. In this situation, Jesus proclaimed Jubilee, in the name of ‘the year of Lord’s favor’. Jesus is the one who not only proclaimed but also achieved Jubilee to people. Actually, Jubilee was imperfect and passive in various ways in Old Testament. For example, all benefits of Jubilee applied to only Israel people. It did not apply to aliens or other tribes. However, Jubilee Jesus proclaimed was perfect and active for all over the world.Jesus proclaimed freedom, liberation, and equality for everybody in all tribes and achieved it. All his life was living for the poor oppressed economically, people alienated from others, people suffered as slaves of the Devil. At that time it was true that Jesus roused leaders’ antipathy because of his devoted life. However, Jesus completed Jubilee. Some scholars who have different opinion about Jubilee: they insist Jubilee and the year of Lord’s favor are the same. However, the researcher suggests that sermon of Jesus in Luke 4:18-19 is about ultimate accomplishment of Jubilee, the year of Lord’s favor. It seemed that Jubilee, historically it never kept or done perfectly, was finally consummated by Jesus at that time. As completion of apocalyptical Jubilee, Jesus proclaimed the year of Lord’s favor.
