The purposes of this study are to investigate what star marketing is, to suggest appropriate evidence to testify that star marketing is a means of advertising, and to examine whether star marketing influences clothing purchasing behavior of adolescents or not. The concept of star marketing was reviewed, the characteristics and clothing behavior of adolescence were analyzed, and instances of start marketing were examined. The date were obtained from questionnaires completed by 341 middle and high school students and analyzed by frequency, t-test, chi-square test, cluster analysis, ANOVA, and Scheffe test. The Cronbach's alpha was calculated for the internal consistency. The results of the study are as follows.First, most adolescents watched TV for one or two hours and the most favorite TV program was the entertainment one. Girls and high school students preferred show and amusement programs while boys and middle school students preferred comedy programs. Girls watched TV more, were more interested in TV stars, and were more likely to identify themselves with TV stars than boys.Second, the level of awareness of star marketing was a little bit higher but the level of attitude of star marketing was lower. And there were no significant differences in TV watching time, interest of TV stars, and identification with TV stars by gender while there were significant differences in those variables between middle school and high school students.Third, the sample was classified into three groups(high interest/high awareness group, high interest/low awareness group, and low interest/low awareness group) by TV watching time, interest of TV stars, identification with TV stars, and awareness and attitude of star marketing. There were significant differences in clothing involvement, mass media involvement, and information source involvement among three groups.
