The aim of this study is to explore the Life Science curriculum of Korean middle and high school related to metabolism, one of the important topics of biology and to suggest ways for better teaching on metabolism. For this study, we compared and analyzed the differences between university general biology textbooks and middle and high school science curriculum. A questionnaire was presented to 5 teachers who had a lot of experience in subject education such as life science I and life science II, and an analysis was performed by obtaining answers. In general biology textbooks adopted by many universities the concepts are arranged sequentially and explanations of almost all key concepts are included to help students systematically understand metabolism. However, in Korean universities, it is possible to graduate without taking any general biology-related courses, so the understanding of metabolism of many graduates can be limited to the contents of subjects up to high school. Therefore, education related to metabolism up to high school is very important. But the concepts about metabolism are scattered and there is room for misunderstanding in several concepts in the science education curriculum which covers middle and high school science textbooks. In addition most students who do not take Life Sciences II will not get the education in the core of metabolism. According to this research, it will be necessary to make more efforts for systematic and correct metabolism education to help students understand life phenomena from the perspective of metabolism and to have a convergent thinking between chemistry and biology.
