This study examines the characteristics of '-teoni' in Korean grammar education, focusing on its semantic, syntactic, and pragmatic dimensions. First, the semantic function of '-teoni' is analyzed, specifically its roles in expressing causality, contrast, sequence, and supplementation. The temporal relationship between the preceding and following clauses of the '-teoni' phrase is also explored. It is observed that there is typically a cause-effect relationship between the events of the two clauses, although sometimes the relationship can be based on the perceptions of the events rather than the events themselves. Regarding the syntactic characteristics of '-teoni', this study investigates the constraints related to subject personality, usage combinations, and the mood of the following clause. The subject of the preceding clause can be in the first, second, or third person, as long as the event of the preceding clause falls within the realm of the speaker's perception. The subject of the following clause must match the subject of the preceding clause, or the topic of the following clause should be closely related to the event of the preceding clause. Moreover, when the subject of the sentence is in the first person, the speaker's feelings can be expressed in the following clause, whereas in the second and third person subjects, the speaker's emotions or intentional actions cannot be conveyed in the following clause. Finally, the pragmatic characteristic of '-teoni' is discussed, highlighting the importance of presenting new information perceived by the speaker in the following clause.
