The purpose of this article is to study the language attitudes of residents in Guangdong Province towards Cantonese. The research focuses on two different types of residents in Guangdong Province: local indigenous residents and non-indigenous residents, with regards to their attitudes towards Cantonese identification, proficiency, usage, and future prospects. The research data are mainly obtained through a questionnaire survey that collects the thoughts of the two types of residents in Guangdong Province on Cantonese and conducts corresponding data analysis to obtain more effective results. The analysis results show that family environment has an important impact on Cantonese acquisition; identity recognition and language recognition have a corresponding relationship with mutual influence, but this does not lead to most people having language discrimination psychology. Cantonese has a high affinity for most interviewees, and people whose mother tongue is not Cantonese have a higher willingness to use it. However, people generally hold a pessimistic attitude towards the future of Cantonese. How to preserve the uniqueness of Cantonese under the increasingly strengthened Mandarin environment, establish and maintain the sense of identity of local residents towards Cantonese, and better inherit Cantonese culture are still issues worthy of attention.
