This study selected 67 research papers on educational leadership out of 119 published over the past five years (2017~2021) in 『Educational Administration Quarterly』 (EAQ), a representative journal in the field of educational administration, and analyzed them based on educational leadership execution subjects, leadership types, research topics, and research methods. The main analysis results are as follows. First, the principal(41.4%) was the most common subject of educational leadership, followed by educational leaders and whole teachers·school leaders, and the frequency of educational leaders and school leaders increased compared to the past. Second, instructional leadership(25.0%) was the most common type of educational leadership, followed by distributed leadership and social justice leadership, and various leadership types were studied. Third, leadership performance and characteristics(49.3%) were the most common research topics, followed by leadership effects, leadership diagnosis and development, leadership theory and policy. Fourth, qualitative research(47.3%) was the most common research method, followed by quantitative research, literature research, and mixed research. Based on these analysis results, the recent research trends of U.S. educational leadership were confirmed, compared with past research trends analysis studies(2009~2013), and implications for educational leadership research were presented.
