This study investigates the current status of media facade design in cities, investigates domestic and foreign cases, identifies the development of media facade design, studies the expression of media facade design, and distinguishes media facade design types. This study classified media facade types according to realization technology. The analysis results are as follows. The first is an LED lighting panel, the second is an LED display, the third is projection mapping, and the last is kinetic. LED lighting panels and LED displays are the most basic and widely applied in the field of media facades, but research has shown that they lack better functionality in energy saving and color adjustment. Projection mapping is a form that shows the most popular images by applying them, but there is a limit to design in urban space because a large expression space is required. Kinetic is weak in visual sense and graphics, but has the characteristics and strengths of energy saving and sustainable design. It is expected that this study provides basic data and research directions for the field of media facade design.
