In order to solve the problem of insufficient identification ability of H-bridge capacitor bank fault location method of filter in converter station, a fault location method based on current criterion of high voltage bridge arm is proposed in this paper. A current transformer is connected in series with arbitrary bridge arm at the high voltage bridge arm of the capacitor bank. The quantitative relationship among total current of capacitor bank, unbalance current of bridge arm, and current of high voltage bridge arm is analyzed to determine the capacitor fault locations of single bridge arm and double bridge arms. A case study is conducted by using Matlab/Simulink software platform to verify the effectiveness of the proposed fault location method of capacitor bank.
