The Earth’s marine resources have long supported economic growth and the livelihoods of people everywhere. All sectors of society today are now facing the question on how to ensure sustainable development as the global oceans are changing. Propelling the Blue Economy with those answers requires information: the data and knowledge needed to manage uses of the ocean that depend on marine life and other marine resources [1] [2] (Fig. 1).
