This paper surveys and provides perspectives related to the integration of cybersecurity and safety design in complex industrial control systems, focusing on nuclear domain and overall I&C architecture. This research presents a view of the on-going international efforts for finding balance and synergies based on similarities and differences of the safety and cybersecurity disciplines, both generally and also focused on instrumentation and control systems. Defence-in-Depth (DiD) and the graded approach are presented as cross cutting topics to synergise between nuclear safety and security. Complementing our previous study, we also discuss the integration from the point-of-view of the domain’s main cybersecurity standards.
