The widespread use of lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles has led to further demands on the charging time and charging temperature rise during the charging process of lithium-ion batteries. Based on the further demand for lithium-ion batteries, this paper presents a method for multi-stage constant current charging based on a third-order RC equivalent circuit model for lithium-ion batteries; the particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to establish the objective function of charging time and charging temperature rise to obtain the current value of each charging stage. The effectiveness of the multi-stage charging method based on the particle swarm optimization algorithm can be verified by comparing it with the traditional constant current charging method by simulation experiments in MATLAB.
