In the process of rapid deployment of 5G base stations (BSs), some prominent problems have been encountered: first, with the increase of signal frequency, the coverage area of existing BS poles and towers are insufficient; second, it is usually difficult to locate new BS poles and towers, and the investment for new BS poles and towers are huge. Public power facilities such as power towers and street lamps distributed in urban road systems at all levels, can provide a more flexible scheme for the location of 5G wireless communication BSs. Using the infrastructure of public power distribution system as tower resources can not only effectively solve the coverage problem of 5G wireless communication, but also revitalize the existing resources for power grid enterprises and improve the economic benefits to a great extent. In this paper, a novel 5G wireless communication coverage enhancing service mode with power towers and street lamp poles integrated has been proposed, which is based on the power supply companies in Zhejiang Province of the State Grid. By investigating the ownership and opening-up capacity of power towers and street lamp poles, the operation conditions, products and service mode has been studied, and relevant conclusions has been given.
