ICT (Information and Communication Technology) application in various sectors is proliferating, including the fisheries sector. This paper describes the results of a combination between GPS transmission, temperature-depth sensor installation, and participatory data collection by fishers on gillnet fisheries in BIWA lake Shiga prefecture Japan. The study aims to collect vessel operational data from vessel GPS position using a transmitter and record the fishing gear detail operational aspect using a temperature-depth sensor automatically. These data are then combined with catch data used to estimate catch per unit effort (CPUE) and spatial density of ayu gillnet fishery in BIWA lake. Detail CPUE information and catch operation description could support ayu gillnet fishery management and be very important for the young generation to understand the ayu fishery and continue as fishermen in BIWA lake.
