In this study, we developed a methodology to guide neurite outgrowth by chemical guidance cue for studying the growth and development of neuronal systems. We reported a real-time manipulation system by penetrating a 4 μm thin-glass sheet embedded in a microfluidic device using a femtosecond laser. This system allowed controlled release of the growth factor that induced directional neurite outgrowth at a designated time point.
