A single-layer microstrip-fed patch antenna with ultra-wideband harmonic suppression is demonstrated. A compact and novel defected ground structure (DGS) and is introduced. The filtering characteristics of the microstrip patch antenna have been improved. A microstrip antenna with the working frequency 3.13 GHz (f C ) is designed and manufactured. The proposed antenna has an ultra-wide harmonic suppression bandwidth range from 2f C to 5f C , which is better than the earlier design (2f C to 4f C ). Moreover, the novel DGS decreased the area defected on ground plane by 31.7% compared to the earlier design.
