High-temperature superconductor (HTS) has proved to offer devices with higher efficiency due to its higher current density and higher power density. It has widespread applications in electrical power sector such as motors, transformers, fault-current limiters, energy storage devices and offshore wind turbines. All of these applications are still in progression. Still the mass commercialization of these applications has not been observed. This paper outlines a brief review of the development of HTS applications, their current status of development and the challenges.
