Periodic speed ripple due to the load torque pulsation has been an important concern in the compressor of air-conditioner, particularly at low speed. In this paper, a torque compensation model based on cascade filter is proposed to reduce speed ripple by using fundamental component in the motor speed. The cascade filter is designed to obtain the load torque from fundamental of speed ripple. The proposed approach is derived from the machine mechanical model and is not affected by the variation of electrical parameters in the machine. A feedforward compensation of q-axis current based on the obtained load torque is implemented under the sensorless control. Both simulation and experiment are carried out on the air-conditioner platform. Test results demonstrate effectiveness of the proposed method that the amplitude of speed ripple reduce about 70% compared with no torque compensation.
