Permanent magnet-assisted synchronous reluctance Motor (PMa-SynRM) may be considered as one of the best choices among AC machines because it can offer a large constant speed range, high torque capability and high power factor. To formulate the PMa-SynRM as a high speed performance drive, effective control strategies are needed. Control strategies such as maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control, maximum torque per voltage (MTPV) control, unity power factor control (UPFC) can be implemented. In this paper, a review has been done on the methods reported in several papers for implementing the control strategies for PMa-SynRM drive with their classification, advantages and disadvantages so as to enable the researchers to make choice among these for different applications.
