This paper proposed and explored an improvement in the efficiency of switched digital beamforming (DBF) radar receiver system model based on SIMO/MIMO array. A proposed two-way switched DBF radar based with only one microwave transmitter and one radio frequency (RF) digital receiver is presented. In the system, each selected array element by a high-speed RF switch receives only the return echo from its own transmissions. By this improvement, the usage of microwave digital receiver components as in a conventional DBF radar system is reduced from L to 1 reducing drastically the system inefficiencies and achieving enhanced angular resolution and higher flexibility of the DBF radar. Generally, the proposed two-way switched DBF radar is to achieve much narrower two-way main beam compared to the one-way DBF radar. In the end, simulation experiments are performed to show the out performance of the proposed technique against the conventional. The simulation is performed against a detection of two targets in the directions of 60° and 65° using the same system parameter and same antenna array. It is observed that the two targets can be resolved evidently by the proposed two-way switched DBF radar while they cannot be resolved by the conventional one-way DBF technique.
