This paper proposed a novel design of a compact patch antenna with wideband switch pattern between the conical and broadside beams. The basic structure of the antenna is a circular patch with two annular slots for widening the frequency band. The two metal probes under the patch play a supporting and feed role at the same time. As the two probes are fed by the in-phase and out-phase current respectively, the patch antenna can work under the mode of TM01/ TM02 mode and TM10 mode, generating the conical pattern and broadside pattern respectively. According to the simulation results, the working frequency band of supporting both patterns is from 5.6GHz to 7.8GHz.
