A mutual coupling calibration method for the adaptive antenna array is proposed. The method is base on the mutual coupling grid model that is introduced to describe the mutual coupling effect of the adaptive antenna array. On the basis of the gird model, the relationship between the induced terminal voltages due to the elements in the isolated state and in the array is derived. The least square solution of the matrix function or the relationship formula gives the calibration matrix. The method can calibrate the terminal voltage effectively not only for the antenna array composed of wire elements but also for that composed of the planar antennas such as the microstrip antennas, which is verified by employing the new calibration method in a dipole array and a microstrip array for the DOA estimations.
