Ultrasonic is an important method to study the viscoelastic properties of liquid at high frequency. Relationship between the viscosity and phase change between incident wave and reflected wave from solidfluid interface was obtained by acoustic shear impedance model. High resolution time measurement is the key to determine the phase changes of Newtonian fluid which has decoupled relation between amplitude and phase of the reflection coefficient. Various parameters affecting phase difference including the material properties of the solid, the operating frequency and the resolution were discussed in this paper, then the time scales were analyzed theoretically for Newtonian fluid/Plexiglas combination. The results shown that time error of a few tenths of nanosecond can make large deviation in viscosity for lower viscosity products.
