This work studies the outage performance of an amplify-and-forward-based mixed radio-frequency (RF) and free-space optical (FSO) dual-hop transmission system with fixed and variable gain relays. The RF path subjects to Beaulieu-Xie fading, while the FSO link is influenced by Gamma-Gamma turbulence with pointing errors. Novel mathematical expressions of cumulative distribution function, probability density function and moment generating function for the system are derived. At last, numerical and Monte Carlo simulations are performed.
