This paper presents a generalized model of a drug delivery capsule that can release a substance in different points of the digestive tract. The main purpose was to predict the capsule’s behavior and to demonstrate the utility of the device through simulation. Three different modelling situations are presented, two of them concerning the delivery process and one involving the capacitive monitoring of the capsule’s reservoir. The modeling results were focused on: the intracapsular drug volume, the fluid velocity, the delivery flux and the concentration of the substance. The modeling was performed using a dedicated software which contains modules that use predefined equations describing the transport of diluted species and the electrostatics laws. Some aspects regarding the capsule’s structure and components were also discussed.
