The future smart grid will have high penetration level of variable distributed generation such as solar photovoltaic (PV) with enormous amount of data from smart metering devices to be processed for impact analysis. Traditional impact analysis tools may not be able to provide accurate enough assessment for decision making. In this paper, a cloud computing based platform with enhanced data security support is proposed to perform real-time solar PV impact analysis for the distribution network. The platform is able to utilize various advantages of cloud computing such as scalable storage and computation resources to perform the analysis in a cost-effective way.
