Full-bridge half-controlled rectifier (FHR) of a 4-phase wound-field doubly salient generator (WFDSG) equipped with serial compensation capacitors (SCC) is researched in this paper. FHR can help to improve the power density of a WFDSG to a certain extent, however it augments the voltage regulation factor. To further enhance the power density and optimize external characteristic of the generating system, the FHR with serial compensation capacitors is proposed. On the basis of an 8/6 WFDSG prototype whose phase winding average inductance reaches 35mH, the working principles and modes of FHR with SCC are studied. The finite element analysis (FEA) is used to study the influences of SCC on FHR. Comparisons between FHRs without and with SCC in load condition are made. Furthermore, the output characteristics in different generating control strategies are analyzed by simulations. It is concluded that FHR with appropriate SCC can promote output power and decrease voltage regulation factor with the introduced control strategies.
