Remote sensor data are widely used in ecological, geographical and military applications. But nowadays, it is difficult to store and process the massive remote sensing images whose volume is still continually increasing. In order to facilitate these GIS related data-intensive applications, a scalable and high performance environment for remote sensor data storage and processing is required. In this paper, the storage and processing infrastructure architecture for remote sensor images in Scientific Data Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences is presented. Some key aspects are discussed detailedly such as fast deploying various operating systems with required software among substantial quantity servers, distributing data into processing nodes in cluster, tiered storage with hierarchical storage management for data backup and high available data-intensive computing.
