Deep excavation and supporting structure is a space system which has Length, width and depth. Spatial effect should be considered in the design of deep excavation. The concept of utilization factor of soil pressure is proposed and calculation method of utilization factor of soil pressure is established based on conventional design methods on deep excavation of plane strain problem. Comparison of an engineering example and results of field test show that calculation method of utilization factor of soil pressure proposed is feasible. The form of horizontal displacement of the top beam is proposed by analysis of the actual force, and practical examples show that the assumption is reasonable which offer theoretical basis for design of spatial effect of deep excavation.
