Characteristic mode analysis (CMA) has been widely applied for developing metasurface (MTS) antennas for various applications in the far-field region. In the presentation during the conference, the recent development of metasurface antennas for near-field applications will be presented instead, showing how a finite-sized MTS can be utilized for near-field manipulation with clear working principles revealed by CMA.
