SUMMARY & CONCLUSIONS This paper discusses a common Maintenance Task Analysis (MTA) methodology for use in assessing maintainability of Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) within Department of Defense (DoD) systems. It will explain how a common approach using an Authoritative Source of Truth for the Task Analysis can become a critical enabler for the Digital Engineering and Agile approaches being adopted by industry. The process aligns the efforts of various stakeholders, including mechanical and electrical engineering, reliability/availability/maintainability, human factors, safety, quality, logistics and technical manuals, to identify the detailed steps, tools, test equipment, consumable materials, and personnel required for performance of maintenance tasks. The paper will discuss (1) the current state for developing and aggregating inputs into MT A, (2) propose a common approach that aligns with Digital Engineering, and (3) present the findings from a trial of the new process on a defense program.
