The existence of time-delay badly influence the performance of the controller. The control of time-delay system is relatively difficult. Using Smith predictor to compensate the time-delay of the object is a common control scheme. The accuracy of the time-delay control system model's parameters directly impact the performance of the controller. So in this paper, harmony search genetic algorithm (HSGA) is used to optimize the identified model's parameters. HSGA can overcome the computational difficulties and long time consuming problems in optimizing parameters. The simulation result has proved its correctness. The Smith predictor using HSGA as a model identification parameters optimization algorithm has greatly improved the stability, effectiveness and even robustness of the time-delay controller.
