With global warming and the frequent occurrence of extreme weather, the problem of overhead transmission line icing disaster is becoming more serious, which has brought great challenges to the safety, reliability, and stable operation of power systems. Firstly, the overhead transmission line icing prediction technology in various countries is summarized. And then, the advantages and disadvantages of each model are compared and analyzed from the physical mechanism model, the dynamic statistical calculation model, the image statistical calculation model, and the intelligent algorithm model in the overhead transmission line icing prediction method. Overall, the technical deficiencies are summarized, and the future research direction and development trend in the field of ice cover monitoring and prediction are stated.
