Integrating distributed generations (DGs) into the power system has significantly increased the significance of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in improving system performance. This research aims to define the optimal BESS installation and operation using an Improved Neural Network Algorithm (INNA) to maximize its benefits within the radial distribution system (RDS) integrated with DGs. The INNA integrates a Simple Quadratic Interpolation (SQI) strategy to improve searchability. The optimal BESS installation and operation problem aims to reduce the energy cost of RDS purchased from the main substation. This study investigates four cases of IEEE 33-bus RDS over 24 hours of a representative day with time-of-use electricity tariffs. The simulation results show that the INNA application for optimal BESS installation and operation is very promising in reducing energy cost and energy loss of RDS integrated with DGs.
