The complex current path and multiple switching states greatly increase the difficulty of fault diagnosis for five-level active-neutral-point-clamped (5L-ANPC) converter. In this paper, a fault diagnosis method based on switching states replacement and current prediction model (SSR-CPM) is proposed for 5L-ANPC converter. The current prediction model (CPM) is established according to the circuit structure, which can accurately predict the output current to get the residual between the estimated current and the measured current. SSR-CPM detects faults by comparing the absolute value integral of the residual with a threshold and realizes fault localization by analyzing the fault characteristic of different switching states. SSR-CPM can be applied to any modulation method of 5L-ANPC and does not require additional sensors. Simulation experiments implemented in MATLAB/Simulink confirm the effectiveness and accuracy of SSR-CPM.
