Induction motor drive is being preferred in city battery electric vehicle. A cascaded H-bridge three-level inverter facilitates modular structure and generates output voltage with better power quality over two-level inverter. This paper presents the comparative performance analysis of cascaded H-bridge three-level inverter fed induction motor drive with voltage control, v/f control, indirect current vector control, and modified indirect current vector control schemes. A 37kW induction motor is selected for the analysis. The performance of induction motor drive is analyzed in MATLAB/Simulink environment. The three-level inverter has shown improved performance in terms of reduced THD so reduced losses, fast pick up and improved range of the EV.
