A lasso shaped fiber biosensor with optical fiber ring laser demodulation method was proposed for the specific detection of CEACAM5 – a kind of cancer marker protein. The laser signal held a narrow linewidth of 0.02 nm (3dB bandwidth) and high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of ~40 dB, enabling a good RI detection ability of 167 nm/RIU. Functionalization of the fiber laser was realized to detect a kind of cancer biomarker-CEACAM5. The limit of detection (LOD) could reach 28 ng/mL. This sensing device can be extended to other biological monitoring and has great potential as in situ biomedical monitoring devices that can be mass-produced.
