Energy-efficient determination of curvature, which is a core component of varied multimedia tasks involving range images, on recent x86-64 architectures is considered. Via reducing power use for core system components, the work aims to enable multimedia system contributions toward reduced energy usage. Focus here is on eight popular methods for determining surface curvature in range images, especially on consumption-conscious strategies that yield reduced energy usage in recent workstation-like environments.
