In this paper, a modeling and simulation method of reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) is proposed which employs a simple equivalent model to abstract the key characteristics of RIS units with tunable devices. The proposed model is verified by the design and simulation of a RIS panel with 2-bit element phase resolution operating at2.6 GHz. The far-field patterns and the reciprocity of uplink and downlink beams are simulated via both the conventional method and the proposed method. The results show that the proposed method can significantly reduce the computational complexity of modeling and simulation, while maintaining a well consistency with the results of the conventional method. This makes it possible to use more efficient tools to capture the reflection characteristics of RIS devices for 6G communications.
