A collection of articles in which Maria Cole carries out a convincing and nuanced analysis of historical and cultural factors shaping the differences in the participation of women in education at the university level from the nineteenth century to modern times, on the example of the US and Poland. The author applies a critical approach to simplified models of social development in the field of gender sociology, in particular models that in the analysis of gender inequalities universalize the history and experience of Western countries and do not take into account historical and socio-cultural characteristics in non-Western countries, including Eastern Europe.
