The COVID-19 pandemic has brought catastrophic consequences to the world, causing over 969 thousand deaths from over 31 million cases reported, as well as the worst globally economic recession since World War II. Simultaneously, an unprecedented “Infodemic” was witnessed, which is defined as a global epidemic of misinformation- rapid spreading of fake news, disinformation, and conspiracy theories through various platforms. The WHO’s director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that “We’re not just fighting with a pandemic; we’re fighting an infodemic”, as it brought the situation even worse. Infodemic was created in 2003, by David Rothkopf, who is a journalist of Washington Post during the outbreak of SARS. It has been used sporadically since then, but is re-emphasized recently by WHO when they are fighting with COVID-19. It is not a new phenomenon but not quite much mentioned as a topic of public health until recently, hence it may not be fully investigated.
