The model adopted by a large number of countries, particularly centered on the provision of hospital health care, does not seem to contribute to a comprehensive, cost-effective and balanced response to the needs and challenges arising from the demographic and epidemiological transition that has characterized the last few decades. Given the existence of different financing models for long-term care, it is considered necessary and urgent to know the existing evidence on financing models for elderly people in home care, which are more cost-effective and financially sustainable for the health system. However, there was no systematic literature search and no synthesis of the evidence base. Therefore, this review seeks to provide a more comprehensive and systematic search of the available literature to determine the factors related to financing models of long-term care at home, for the elderly.
