Highlights •MXene layers effectively enhanced the lithium intercalation capacity of LMO.•Patterns of pulse electric fields were optimized on time dimension.•Control of pulse electric field effectively improved the intercalation kinetics of lithium in low Li/Na ratio solutions.•The separation coefficient of lithium/sodium using the above strategies achieved 1020 in Atacama simulated brine.
