Highlights •A basic four-column extractive distillation process with dehydration column to separate azeotrope of acetonitrile/1,4-dioxane/water.•An innovative extractive distillation process with an integrated column for separating acetonitrile/1,4-dioxane/water.•Using the SAA to optimize basic process.•Introduce heat integration and heat pump technology on the basis of basic and innovative processes.
