Highlights •The mixtures of BTESE and MTES are proposed to prepare gas separation membranes.•The role of MTES in the as-prepared membranes is changed by its proportion.•The structures of the membranes can be adjusted by the ratio of MTES to BTESE.•The optimized membrane performs well in gas separation such as H2/N2 and CO2/CH4.
