Highlights •Suspended desulfurization wastewater droplet was hung in the hot constant chamber to investigate the evaporation process.•A mathematical model was built with consideration of the effects on the concentration of the water activity and the density.•The density change is a more significant factor affecting the droplet evaporation rate comparing with the water activity.•The assumption of uniform concentration slightly increased the evaporation rate comparing with that considering concentration change.
