Highlights •The minor allele carriers of rs3834458 in FADS2 had higher ALA and lower EPA, DPA and DHA levels compared to those of carrying major allele homozygote.•Variation in FADS2 may influence the rate of conversion of substrates into products in n-3 LC-PUFA synthetic pathways.
