@@@@Highlights •A Mn-Co catalyst with abundant oxygen vacancies and acidities was constructed.•The catalyst showed a synergistic effect for simultaneous oxidation of Hg0 and chlorobenzene.•The Hg-d orbitals undergone charge transfer with Cl-p to form HgCl2.•The effect reduced the consumption of Brønsted and Lewis acids.
